Since Justin was young he has always had a strong connection to animals. By the time he was 8 years old he was jokingly called Doolittle by his family and friends. Animals seem to naturally gravitate to him and vice versa. He started The Bella Vita Project after his fur baby got out and turned in to the local shelter and he was told that the local shelters were so far over capacity that they were euthanizing animals within 24 hours if they were not able to contact the owners. After getting his fur baby back from the shelter, he went to dinner with a friend that evening and told him about it. 24 hours is simply unacceptable. Justin's friend told him that he had a friend in a different major metropolitan area that had been on a 4-6 month waiting list to adopt a rescue pup. His curiosity immediately kicked in and led him to wonder why there are countless animals being euthanized due to regional overpopulation of shelters when there are other shelters in different areas that are so under populated that people in the area are waiting 4-6 months. In Justin's mind it seemed to be a simple supply and demand problem that could be dramatically improved or eliminated with proper technology. After thorough research into the issue Justin was able to recognize several major weaknesses in the current systems, companies, and organizations that are in place to get our 4 legged kids back to us when they go on too much of an adventure and forget how to get back home.
The Bella Vita Project was formulated with the same heart and compassion as most charities/rescues are in the sense that we are out to save lives. The major fundamental difference that separates us from the majority of other entities is that we try to stay focused on relocating a large quantity of animals from overpopulated shelters to shelters with availability rather than focusing on finding one individual animal at a time their perfect forever home.
Whether you're part of a shelter, a rescue organization, or just someone who wants to make a difference, reaching out is the first step. We're here to connect, collaborate, and create better outcomes for animals across the country.
